Vale Betty Johnson AO

It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing of Betty Johnson AO.

Betty was a one of the co-founders of Health Consumers NSW. She will leave a great legacy to consumer advocacy in NSW and Australia, in a range of areas including women’s health, older people and aged care.

Betty took a leading role in the stakeholder forum we held to launch our project “Improving test result communication, management and follow-up” During a panel discussion bringing together clinicians, scientists and consumers, she truly showed her passion for consumer advocacy emphasising that “consumers can add what it feels to be the patient. That is the real value of consumer engagement, where can you get this information [other] than from the patients themselves?”

Our thoughts are with her family and friends and everyone who’s care she influenced through her advocacy work. She will be dearly missed.
