In this seminar we were pleased to welcome Associate Professor Hao Zheng from Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai.
We were interested to hear about patient safety and quality improvement initiatives being undertake in Chinese hospitals.
It was a pleasure having Associate Professor Zheng visit and present on her area of expertise as part of the AIHI Seminar Series.

Abstract
My presentation will briefly summarize patient safety and quality improvement initiatives in China in the past decade, and then focus on 1) patient safety culture in mental health organizations; and 2) an example of quality practice in a tertiary hospital in Shanghai.

Dr Hao Zheng, Associate Professor, Director of International Office, Tongji University School of Medicine, Shanghai
Dr Hao Zheng is an Associate Professor in Public Health (patient safety) at Tongji University School of Medicine, with a triple background in medicine, science, and public health in China, Europe and USA. Dr Zheng had been working at the Patient Safety Programme (Service Delivery and Safety) at the World Health Organization, HQ Geneva since 2010, focusing on patient safety education, training and implementation of standardized operating protocols to promote patient-centered care and to drive continuous safety and quality improvement. Dr Zheng went back to China in 2014; she was one of the initiators and core members of the Patient Safety Collaborative of China – the first nation‑wide patient safety initiative, launched in 2014. Dr Zheng is now guiding the development of National Patient Safety Goals, and a member of the China Hospital Association Steering Committee to develop a hospital accreditation scheme.
After qualifying as a medical doctor at the Wuhan University School of Medicine, Dr Zheng completed an MSc in Immunology and Microbiology at the Huazhong University of Science and Technology Tongji Medical School and a PhD in Neurobiology at the University of Houston, Texas. She also completed patient safety training at the Johns Hopkins University and has an MBA from the University of Geneva.
