Free seminar: Strategic insights on patient safety with Sir Liam Donaldson
Hear the views of global patient safety expert and public health champion Sir Liam Donaldson on the need for new direction in patient safety at a seminar in Sydney next month.
Sir Liam, the World Health Organization Envoy for Patient Safety and former Chief Medical Officer for England and UK Chief Medical Advisor, will join a panel of Australian health leaders at the 18 April seminar hosted by the Sax Institute, the Australian Institute of Health Innovation at Macquarie University and the Clinical Excellence Commission.
Despite the priority given to reducing avoidable harm associated with healthcare worldwide, Sir Liam argues improvement has been slow. He will share his views on why healthcare has trailed other high-risk industries in reducing harm, review the existing global patient safety landscape and discuss the need for new directions.
The panel will also include:
- Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor S. Bruce Dowton
- Australian Institute of Health Innovation Director Professor Jeffrey Braithwaite
- Clinical Excellence Commission Chief Executive Ms Carrie Marr
- Scientific Director of the Sax Institute’s 45 and Up Study and Australian National University Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health Professor Emily Banks
Seminar date: Tuesday, 18 April
Time: 4-6pm
Location: Ultimo, Sydney.
The event is free but registration is required.
