National Medication Safety Symposium

National Medication Safety Symposium

Creating safer systems

The future of e-medication management (eMM) systems in Australian hospitals.

New, world first research showing the impact of electronic medication management (eMM) systems on patient safety in children’s hospitals was presented at the National Medication Safety Symposium, held at Macquarie University on Wednesday 21 September 2022.

The NSW Health Secretary Susan Pearce opened the event which included keynote addresses from patient safety expert, Professor Westbrook, and Dr Mark Simpson, eHealth NSW Chief Clinical Information Officer and Executive Director, Clinical Engagement and Patient Safety. Dr Mary McCaskill, Director of Medical Services and Clinical Governance at Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, provided the closing address. Participating on a panel discussions was Mr Michael Dickinson, Director of Information, Communication and Technology/CIO, Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network.

Representatives from across the health sector nationally came together to engage with the latest evidence on how electronic systems support safer care.

The research is funded by a National Health and Medical Research Council Partnership Project, led by Professor Johanna Westbrook, with partners Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network and eHealth NSW.

All presentations from the symposium can be viewed on the links below.
