Course overview
The GLA:D Back Australia course is available for chiropractors and physiotherapists who are registered to practice in Australia.
Throughout the course, clinicians will:
- learn how to best help patients take control of their back pain and to function well in everyday life despite back problems
- receive all necessary materials to deliver GLA:D Back in their clinics directly after the course
- be certified as providers of GLA:D Back at completion of the course
- be trained in all practical elements of GLA:D Back, including:
- the first individual consultation
- registration of patients in the GLA:D Back registry
- patient education and exercise classes
- completion of the program.
The course costs $750 per attendee and consists of:
- one online afternoon session (1pm to 5.30pm) over Zoom (link to be sent prior to course date)
- one face-to-face session on a Saturday (9am to 4pm).
See upcoming course dates and locations within registration form.
Payment for training course is taken alongside registration details through Macquarie University’s payment gateway. Payment can be made via credit card.
Cancellations less than four weeks before the first online evening will incur a non-refundable administration fee of $100 plus GST or you will be offered to transfer your registration to an upcoming course.
GLA:D Back Australia, Denmark and Canada all use a secure online registry that automatically sends questionnaires to participants and compiles the results on a secure, onshore server.
This only allows the research team at Macquarie University to access the data, that is then used (de-identified) in research publications, reports and annual reviews.
After the course, certified clinicians have access to all the material to be used for patient education and exercises. Provided material includes:
- patient information leaflets
- collaborator folders
- posters
- access to the database to record test results and objectives
- two slideshows
- text suggestions
- protocols for patients with exercises
- suggestions for both progression and regression.
During the course, time is allocated to develop a plan for how clinicians can start a GLA:D Back program in their clinic. If there are challenges later, clinicians can get support by contacting us at gladbackaus@mq.edu.au.
Implementation of the GLA:D Back program will involve having adequate space in your clinic to perform small group exercise classes (two to six people) and must begin within six months after you've completed the training course in order to maintain certification. If there are no patients registered in the database after six months, the clinic will be contacted by the GLA:D Back Australia team.
For a program to be a GLA:D Back program, the program must involve:
- patient education sessions, based on GLA:D Back material
- exercise classes, based on GLA:D Back material
- the recording of data in the GLA:D Back registry.
