Bio

Professor Deborah Schofield is the inaugural Director of GenIMPACT: Centre for Economic Impacts of Genomic Medicine, in the Faculty of Business and Economics, Department of Economics, at Macquarie University. Professor Schofield has established herself as one of a handful of international leaders in the new field of economics of genomic medicine. Although she has worked as an economist for two decades, Professor Schofield commenced her career as a Speech Pathologist running a paediatric clinic where she worked with children with developmental disorders and disabilities.

Professor Schofield subsequently pioneered the applications of microsimulation modelling to health and developed our internally leading research program on productivity impacts of illness. This research is highly relevant to genomic medicine and provided a solid foundation for the new Centre’s work on the costs and benefits of genomic medicine.
