The ARC Centre of Excellence for All Sky Astrophysics in 3 Dimensions (ASTRO 3D) has produced a comprehensive picture of the evolution of matter, chemical elements and energy in the universe.

About us

ASTRO 3D brings together world-class optical, radio and theoretical astrophysicists to answer fundamental questions, including:

  • What is the origin of matter and the periodic table elements?
  • What is the origin of the ionising radiation in the universe?

Our vision is to unlock the mysteries of the universe using innovative 3D technology, while sharing the excitement and wonder of astronomy to inspire the broader community.

Our centre was established in 2017 with a seven-year $40 million grant, funded by the Australian Government under the Australian Research Council (ARC) Centres of Excellence program.

We aim to:

  • propel Australia to the forefront of astronomical research by combining Australia’s radio, optical and theoretical expertise to understand the origins of our universe and the galaxies within it
  • train future Australian astronomers to lead breakthrough science on the next generation of telescopes
  • share our discoveries and passion for research with the broadest possible audience and inspire the scientists of the future.
