Open data finance ARC grant-funded PhD scholarship

This PhD scholarship is part of the ARC Discovery Project (DP250101771) ‘Consumer Data Privacy Risk Analysis and Management in the Open Banking Era’.

Several domestic PhD scholarships are available to invent cutting-edge AI into addressing critical challenges for open data economy through developing novel privacy-preserving techniques for financial transaction data.

About the scholarship

This project aims to address privacy issues in current Open Banking adoption using Bayesian learning techniques that quantitatively analyse privacy risks and propose scenario-based risk mitigation strategies.

The expected outcomes include:

  • advancing the theoretical knowledge base in privacy risk assessment and mitigation for open finance
  • new guidelines for establishing explicit and well-informed consumer consent in digital financial service platforms.

The project findings are expected to:

  • significantly enhance ethical and responsible digital financial service offerings
  • strengthen consumers' privacy awareness and well-grained data controls
  • foster the development of privacy regulation in digital finance and the open data economy.

PhD candidates will investigate new machine learning and AI-driven solutions, including deep learning, and data science techniques, to tackle privacy preservation for financial big data, ie bank transactions.

The outcomes will:

  • promote ethical digital transformation in the Australian financial industry
  • enhance consumer privacy awareness and education when using digital financial services and products
  • inform regulatory and legal framework design regarding privacy risk disclosure and consumer information provision standards in the development of digital and open finance.

The project findings will be widely communicated among financial industry and regulators to facilitate its practical use.

Working with leading researchers from Macquarie University, candidates will be at the forefront of AI innovations that advance the future of open finance and economy.

Availability

This scholarship is available to candidates eligible to undertake a direct-entry three-year PhD, with a focus on transforming advanced AI and data science into open data finance.

Components

The scholarships comprise:

  • a tuition fee offset/scholarship
  • a living allowance stipend.

The value of each stipend scholarship is $38,500 per annum (full time, indexed) for three years.
