About the scholarship
The student will work together with an international interdisciplinary team of scholars (law, digital health and AI) to examine what transparency or information different stakeholders need about AI technologies in healthcare to ensure their safety and trustworthiness, and what regulatory and governance measures are most suitable to ensure the required transparency levels.
Possible topics (non-exhaustive list):
- international comparative study of regulatory approaches to AI in healthcare: Transparency in focus
- the role of AI transparency in ensuring safety of AI-enabled medical devices.
Preference will be given to a candidate with legal and regulatory knowledge or experience.
Availability
This scholarship is available to eligible candidates to undertake a direct entry three-year PhD program.
Awards will be available to applicants who satisfy the minimum requirements for admission to a PhD degree. The minimum requirement for admission to a PhD degree is one of the following:
- prior completion of a Master of Research (MRes) with a grade of at least a Distinction level (75 per cent or greater)
- a Master of Philosophy
- a two-year masters degree with a major research component at Distinction level (75 per cent or greater).
International candidates also require evidence that they meet English language requirements to study PhD at Macquarie Law School (eg IELTS score of 7.0 overall and a minimum of 6.5 in any category).
Components
The scholarship comprises:
- a tuition fee offset/scholarship
- a living allowance stipend.
The value of each stipend scholarship is $38,500 per annum (full time, indexed) for three years.
