Our research initiatives

Supporting our researchers to make breakthrough discoveries, develop their skills and progress their careers in Australia.

Frontier Health and Medical Research

The Frontier Health and Medical Research initiative is a two-stage program that will provide a total of $570 million over nine years. It will support researchers to explore bold ideas that could have a global impact.

The stages are as follows:

  1. Stage One - researchers form teams and develop detailed research plans for cutting-edge projects. They must convince the selection panel that their idea has merit. Successful applicants have one year and $1 million to get their proposal ready for submit for Stage Two.
  2. Stage Two - successful Stage One teams compete for up to five years of further funding to pursue their projects. We expect funding to range from $10 million to $20 million per year.
