Emerging Priorities and Consumer Driven Research

The Emerging Priorities and Consumer Driven Research initiative provides $633 million over 10 years from 2019–20 and supports high-quality research that improves patient care, translates new discoveries into practice, and encourages consumers and researchers to work together on emerging priorities.

This initiative will:

  • improve patient care
  • translate new discoveries into clinical practice
  • encourage researchers to work together with the public on projects that matter to the public
  • connect researchers to consumers, carers and clinicians and foster partnerships

This initiative includes projects previously covered under the Accelerated Research initiative.

Rare Cancers, Rare Diseases and Unmet Need Clinical Trials

The Rare Cancers, Rare Diseases and Unmet Need Clinical Trials are funded Australian clinical trials investigating new drugs, devices or treatments for rare diseases or for areas of unmet medical need – this research activity continues as part of the Clinical Trials Activity initiative.

Global Health

The Global Health initiative will invest $28.4 million over 10 years to fund projects that improve our understanding of global health threats and how best to tackle them. The initial focus is on tackling antimicrobial resistance and drug-resistant tuberculosis.
