Find out information about the aims, funding, key dates, resources and contacts for the MQ Research Infrastructure Scheme (MQRS large).

Aim

MQRIS (Large) provides more general research infrastructure support to Faculties.

A supplementary aim of the Research Infrastructure Scheme is to provide infrastructure resources which will assist in making external research funding applications from the researchers within the Faculty more competitive.

The MQRIS funds are allocated competitively and each Faculty is allocated a fixed number of MQRIS Large applications that they can recommend for funding.

Applications must receive prior endorsement from the relevant Faculty prior to submitting in Pure. Any applications that have not been endorsed by the Faculty will not be considered by the panel – without exception.

Funding requests shall normally be for between $25,000 and $150,000.

Applications for sums in excess of $150,000 will not be considered unless a very convincing case can be put to the Selection Panel, Chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research).

For any items costing more than $150,000, normally it would be expected that the Faculty would make a significant cash contribution; such a proposal should also include justification why external support (eg LIEF) for major infrastructure has not been sought.

Funds must be spent within the calendar year in which they were allocated – absolutely no carry-over will be allowed under any circumstances.

  • Opening Date: 22 August 2024
  • Closing Date: 28 October 2024 (11.59 pm)
  • Outcomes Expected: End of November 2024

NOTE: Faculty closing dates are earlier; please check with your Faculty Research Office. All applicants considering applying for MQRIS (Large) funding must first liaise with the relevant Faculty Research Office.

MQRIS (Large) applications will be submitted through Pure by lead CIs following the assessment from the relevant Faculty that the application has been approved to be included in the faculty-ranked list.

Applications that have been submitted in Pure but are not included in the Faculty ranking list will not be considered by the panel.

Questions about Faculty-specific processes should be directed to the relevant Faculty Research Office in the first instance. All Faculty Research Offices must submit their ranking forms for MQRIS (Large) applications by email to the Director, Research Grants & Awards, by the 28 October 2024.

Applications are submitted in Pure by the lead CI once they have been approved by the Faculty Research Office.

Faculty Research Offices must email the list of approved applications, in ranked order, to the Director, Research Grants & Awards by the closing date.
