Find out information about the aims, funding, key dates, resources and contacts for the ARC Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme.
Aim
The Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme engages Australia's best researchers in issues facing the new industrial economies and training the future workforce. The scheme supports collaborative research activity, between the Australian higher education sector and industry, designed to focus on strategic outcomes that are not independently realisable.
The Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme provides funding to Eligible Organisations to engage in cutting-edge research on new technologies and economic, commercial and social transformation which support the development of research outcomes that benefit industry partners in the Industrial Transformation Priorities.
The current Industrial Transformation Priorities identified align with the priority funding areas under the National Reconstruction Fund (NRF):
- renewables and low emissions technologies
- medical science*
- transport
- value-add in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries sectors
- value-add in resources
- defence capability
- enabling capabilities.
Further detail about the NRF priorities can be found at the Federal Register of Legislation.
*Applications which address the ‘Medical Science’ industrial transformation priority must take the ARC Medical Research Policy into consideration.
The scheme's objectives are to:
- encourage collaborative R&D projects between universities and organisations outside the Australian higher education sector that will solve challenging industry issues relevant to the Industrial Transformation Priorities
- drive growth, productivity and competitiveness within key growth sectors
- leverage national and international investment in targeted industry sectors, including from industry and other research end-users
The Industrial Transformation Research Hubs scheme provides project funding of $500,000 to $1 million per year for three to five years.
Partner Organisations must make combined cash and in-kind contribution to the Project that at least matches the total funding requested from the ARC. At least 75% must be in cash, depending on the number of employees (see sections A3.6 and A3.7 of the Grant Guidelines).
Changes to Eligibility for DVCR Co-Funding
Eligibility for the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme is now contingent upon on-time submission of grant applications by the compliance and eligibility check date. Many applications for external funding require cash and in-kind contributions from the host institution in order to be considered for funding. In most cases, researchers request cash contributions, such as project support funds, funding for research associates, scholarships and major equipment, from the DVCR via the DVCR Co-Funding Scheme to support their external funding applications.
To be eligible to request this DVCR Co-Funding, grant applications must be submitted internally, via Pure, by the compliance and eligibility check date.
- Applications must be submitted by the compliance and eligibility check date.
- View further information on deadlines, processes and FAQs.
- Applications that do not have a Pure record and/or do not have all the appropriate approvals in Pure (Head of Department [HoD] and Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation [DDRI]) will not be submitted to the external funding body.
