Help support Indigenous filmmakers to create world-leading research and expand employment opportunities
Indigenous Australian filmmakers play a critical role in documenting and preserving traditional Indigenous knowledge, language and culture. However, funding to document the issues that really matter to Indigenous people and communities, and ongoing careers in the arts and cultural industries, are elusive and scarce.
In partnership with Documentary Australia, we're launching an exciting and unique new scholarship scheme to support Indigenous filmmakers to develop sustainable careers, and deliver ground-breaking research that will foster Indigenous perspectives addressing the most urgent questions of Australian aspirations and nationhood.
Through this initiative, Macquarie University will provide a four-year scholarship to support five mid-career Indigenous filmmakers to complete a Masters of Research and PhD through annual stipends and access to film-making equipment and facilities on campus. The credentials, experience and exposure gained by filmmakers through this scholarship will help candidates to establish themselves in future employment – from the screen industry, to scholarly, government, NGO, and other professional career options. This is a life-changing opportunity, not only for the graduates themselves but for the communities they represent and the voices they document.
We're seeking your support to enable these Indigenous scholars to produce a major screen-work through their studies which will amplify Indigenous perspectives and issues that have been historically sidelined. Your generous donation will ensure the candidates have the funds and resources they need to produce broadcast-quality works that will engage large national audiences through television, festivals, museums and other public events.
Please support Indigenous filmmakers through this important culture-making and nation-building endeavour by making a donation towards our Indigenous Filmmaker Scholarship Initiative here today.
