Tamworth MND Golf Day
A special social golfing day on the October long weekend raised over $5,000 to support Motor Neuron Disease research and is set to become an annual event in Tamworth.
Thanks to Sue Smith and the 'Beginners’ golf ladies, a fun and successful fundraising event saw 80 people take part in a series of golfing challenges at the Longyard Golf Course in Tamworth. Teams of four took part in 9 holes of golf, with a range of different challenges on the different holes. Each challenge had a unique twist, including:
- Tee off perched on a tyre on the 1st
- For $5, ex-international Aussie golfer Julia Boland drove a signed Titleist ball to keep on the 2nd
- Win a $100 Transwest Fuel voucher for a Hole in One and also put your ball within a metre of the hole in the Betting Circle to double your money on the 6th
- Try your hand (for free!) at the Nearest to the pin contest for a shot at a $25 prize on the 8th
- Putt with your non-dominant hand on the 9th
- Chip Attack: $2 for 3 balls – win your money back if you chip through the big hole, double your money through the small hole
The day was a huge hit. The weather was beautiful (after windy days either side) and afterwards, people relaxed and had a few drinks on the deck after having only recently come out of lockdown.
Community efforts like this bring us closer to finding a cure for Motor Neuron Disease.
