Wauchope Blues Junior Rugby League Football Club Fundraiser
On Saturday 1st April 2023, the Wauchope Football Club and their community gathered to support a cause close to home.
The Wauchope Blues Junior Rugby League Coach has been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a disease that also affected another prominent member of the local community. To show support of their journeys and contribute to a cure, the world record breaking ice bucket challenge event was organised.
The event saw 497 people completing the ice bucket challenge, a well-known social media campaign that over the years has brought much needed awareness and funds to MND. This incredible result has secured the Wauchope community a world record, beating the previously held record of 430 people.
Support of local businesses saw the community continue the fun with touch football games throughout the day and well-deserved barbeques and snow cones. The participation from people of all ages and their strong motivation to raise awareness for MND, made this such a special event for the community.
The event raised over $10K for the Macquarie University MND Centre, a donation which will allow Prof Dom Rowe and his team to continue their work supporting MND patients, establishing clinical trials and researching toward a cure for MND.
