Running for Dementia

A Dementia Research Centre (DRC) team from Macquarie University participated in this year’s Sydney Marathon, raising over $3,000 for research.

For the first time this year, the team fielded competitors in the full marathon, including DRC research fellow Dr Ole Tietz who completed his first marathon in a time of three hours and 27 minutes.

Also in the team were Professor  Lars Ittner,  Dr Annika Van Hummel and Amie Law

This is the fourth year the DRC has entered a team in the event, which was previously known as the Sydney Running Festival. They joined a record 40,000 participants in this year’s marathon.

The DRC also organised a special seminar and barbecue to mark Dementia Action Week (18–24 September), in support of Dementia Australia.

The seminar focused on the centre’s approach to understanding and treating dementia, with Professor Thomas Fath, Associate Professor Yazi Ke, and Dr Ole Tietz speaking.
