Angela has long been a supporter of Macquarie University, and is the recipient of the Alumni Award for International Achievement. She holds a MMgt (2002 and an MBA (2003) from Macquarie University. In 1979, she established Chung-Tai Printing with her husband Dr Suek Chai-kit. The company, which was successfully listed on the main board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 1992, is now a subsidiary of Neway Group Holdings, a market-leading karaoke and entertainment business that she and her husband acquired in 2009. Chief operating officer of Ching Tai Printing until her retirement in 2015, when she passed the reins to her second son, Angela is now focused on giving back to society in the areas of education and health.
To Angela, being able to give back to society is the true mark of her success. She generously supports many organisations, including scholarships for the MQ medical degree program. Now, her vision is to succeed in the health and wellness space.
This year, an MD Scholarship was awarded to MQ student Pak Hei (Michael) Woo in May 2023, who also comes from Hong Kong.
“Becoming a doctor has been a dream of mine since my teenage years, when I witnessed the devastating effects of my mother’s cancer diagnosis,” says Michael. “As I accompanied her to medical appointments in Sydney and Hong Kong, I gained a profound understanding of the importance of altruism and how displaying empathy and compassion can profoundly influence a patient's emotional and psychological well-being.”
For Michael, receiving this scholarship has been life changing. “The transition from Hong Kong to pursue my education in a foreign country presented academic and financial challenges. Therefore, receiving this scholarship has been a life-changing experience for me and my family. It has not only alleviated the financial burden but also ignited a renewed sense of determination within me to excel in my studies and clinical experiences.”
