The Generous and The Grateful
The Generous and The Grateful (GG) connects the kind donations of pre-loved items with vulnerable people. You have a much better chance of rebuilding your life when you can get a good night’s sleep, keep food safe in a fridge, and wear clean clothes to school, work or interviews.
Founded by Carmen Platt and Davida Sweeney, GG advocates for a new way of looking at material aid delivery that focuses on the actual needs of the beneficiary and removes the burden of acquisition from them and their caseworker.
The old ‘come and get it’ mentality just isn’t good enough when assisting highly vulnerable people with complex needs, and in considering bulky items essential to re-establishing normalcy.

Share kindness with vulnerable people so they know they are connected to a supportive community, to the benefit of all.
What we do
- Supply the basic household needs of trauma survivors, so they can turn their energies towards building a brighter future.
- Encourage people to further support vulnerable members of the community and understand they can do something to help, no matter how small.
- Reduce the risk of homelessness and return to danger.
- Reduce the workload of caseworker and aid agencies so they can focus on greater priorities.
- Considerably reduce unnecessary landfill. In 2019 alone we delivered to 406 homes and diverted 94 tonnes from landfill.

We increase the chances of vulnerable people beginning to thrive by taking on the cumbersome task of finding everything their client needs to establish a home, as they move into the social housing secured for them, and delivering them as a complete package. This enables the caseworker to use the time and funds saved on more vital support around mental health, employability and budgeting.
