Master of Professional Accounting at Macquarie Uni
Whether graduates aim to work in the public sector, commercial organisations, the Big 4 firms or for a government organisation.

Obtaining a professional accounting qualification is the aspiration of most accounting students.
The core benefit of a career as a professional accountant is the abundance of opportunities in numerous fields including Auditing, Banking & Finance, Business Analytics, Consulting, Forensic Accounting, Risk Management, Stockbroking, Superannuation and Taxation.
Professional accounting qualifications, such as a Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) at Macquarie University, are globally recognised and carry the valuable attributes of quality and professionalism. The qualifications also signal to employers that professional accounting students possess the desired technical knowledge and skills to perform their role effectively, giving the degrees a competitive edge over other qualifications.
Having a professional accounting qualification from the Macquarie University Business School (MQBS) is invaluable in the current competitive employment market, as it provides students with the ability to work in different sectors because the skills they learn are transferable across various industries. The knowledge, insights, and applied practice that students gain are invaluable assets.
Macquarie University’s Master of Professional Accounting is highly regarded by employers as it equips students with specialised skills that make them critical to the success of any business. Because of this, our accounting students are always in demand.
If a student holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, or is otherwise eligible to enrol in the CPA, CA or ACCA programs, the MPA course is ideal in assisting them to become a qualified practicing accountant. It helps students to develop advanced professional skills in strategic management accounting, financial reporting and disclosure, global strategy and leadership, tax law, and ethics and governance. Students learn how to solve complex accounting problems by applying research skills and knowledge with personal autonomy, accountability, and professional judgement, and to effectively interpret and appraise recent developments in accounting.
MQBS graduates of this course consistently receive higher grades in the Professional Accounting programs than non-Macquarie graduates. Like previous years, in the recent CPA Australia’s professional exams our students have performed well above the Australian and global standards with an overall pass rate of 75 per cent (with 16 per cent of students securing HD and D grades), and all units’ pass rate sits above the Global Pass Rate. Macquarie University is continuously producing excellent results in the CPA Australia professional exams.
Completing a Master of Professional Accounting fulfills the educational requirements for professional membership of CPA Australia – Macquarie University is registered with CPA Australia as a CPA Program tuition provider. Students receive extensive academic support while they prepare for the CPA external examinations – a major factor in our graduates consistently receiving higher grades in the CPA Program than non-Macquarie graduates. The course is taught by professional academics and industry practitioners and offers a very flexible mode of teaching.
