Leaders must over-communicate during times of change. Silence is deadly. We must reach out to people and tell them we are here — students, staff, employers, politicians and members of the community. As a leader within a university, we can inspire people by giving them opportunity when there is loss, hope when there is despair. Universities are places of learning — we welcome anyone seeking to learn, improve themselves, reflect on the world around them, and refine their purpose in life. Universities are critical ballasts for society during times of change. There has never been a better moment for learning and reflection.
