This website is dedicated to the memory of Father Harry Haas (1925-2002): priest, peace activist, and environmentalist who dedicated the last two decades of his life to the people and places of Uva Province in Sri Lanka.

Under A Tropical Sun could not have been completed without his interest, encouragement and advice, and together with his friend and colleague, Upali Karunaratne, of 'Forest Park' [Keppetipola], they assisted me in understanding more clearly the historical events surrounding the 1817-1818 Rebellion in Uva, and helped me to discover some of the remnants of that history.
