CUMINE, Alexander
(1759-1815)

Military officer in the 75th Regiment of Foot.

Born in 1759 at Pitsligo, Scotland. Son of William Cumine of Pitullie (1721-1790) and Jane (nee Moir) of Lonmay. [Married 1752].

Commissioned: Lieutenant (42nd Regiment) and transferred to 75th Regiment as Captain-Lieutenant on 26 January 1788; Captain (75th Regiment) 8 September 1789; Major (75th) 1 September 1795; Lt. Colonel (75th) 25 February 1800.

Acquaintance of Lachlan Macquarie in India. Possibly served at Seringapatam in 1799.

"I forgot to mention in its place that Captain Alexander Cumine of the 75th. Regiment came to live with me on the 17th. Inst.; he arrived lately from the Coast, and is so far on his way to Europe."
28 December 1792
"This day sailed for England the Montrose East Indiaman commanded by Capt. Dorin; on her went Passengers Mrs. Capt. French and Capt. Cumine 75th. Regt., who I did myself the pleasure to accompany on board."

Died: 12 July 1815. Buried in Kingsbury Cemetery, London. Probate in his Will declared on 18 August 1815.
