YATES, Joseph (1781-1810).
Born 1 March and baptised 6 April 1781 at St. Sepulchre's, London.
Served as a midshipman in the Royal Navy as well as on various East Indiamen; first served on the City of London as 2nd Mate on the (3) 1805/1806 voyage. Appointed Captain of the City of London on the following voyages (5 & 6) in 1807/1808 and 1809/1811 - however, appears to have died on 29 November 1810 during the last voyage.
Referred to by Lachlan Macquarie in April 1805 as ' Mr. Yeates the 2d. officer'.

YEO, Sir James Lucas (1782-1818)
Naval officer; born on 7 Oct. 1782 at Southampton, England, elder son of James Yeo (d.1825).
Commissioned: Lieutenant, 20 February 1797; Commander, 21 June 1805; Post-Captain, 19 December 1807; Knighted (Portugal), 17 March 1810; Knighted (UK), 21 June 1810; KCB, 2 January 1815.
Commanded HMS Confiance between 1805-1810; distinguished naval career with a key role in the Anglo-American War of 1812-14; received a British knighthood on 21 June 1810, and KCB on 2 January 1815; d. unmarried 21 Aug. 1818 at sea; buried on 8 September 1818 in the garrison chapel at Portsmouth.
Present in harbour at Rio de Janeiro when the Macquaries were in transit on board HMS Dromedary to NSW in 1809. Mentioned in the writings of fellow Dromedary passenger Judge-Advocate Ellis Bent (1782-1815).
