WADE, Nicholas (c1766-1822) - Reverend
Clergyman.
Arrived in Bombay c1791. Assisted the Reverend Arnold Burrowes (1749-1819) at St Thomas' Church, Bombay, and became senior chaplain during the years 1815-1822. Accompanied Lachlan Macquarie and Governor Duncan to Surat in January 1800. Married Juliana-Charlotte Smith (c1779-1835) at Bombay on 14 November 1796. Children (6).
Died from an apoplectic fit in Bombay on 24 June 1822, aged 56.

WELLADVICE, Thomas (1755-) - Captain
Commanded the Barwell, Indiaman, on four (4) voyages to India and China between 1787-1796: (1) December 1787 - April 1789; (2) January 1790 - June 1791; (3) May 1793 - August 1794; and (4) May 1795 - August 1796.
Dined with Jane and Lachlan Macquarie in Bombay on 10 January 1794.

WENTWORTH, D'Arcy (1793-1861) - Lieutenant
Son of Dr. D'Arcy Wentworth. [73rd Regiment]; served in NSW/VDL: 1811-1814, Ceylon: 1814-1820. Died: 21 July 1861, in Launceston (Tasmania).

Explorer, landowner, barrister and statesman; son of Dr. D'Arcy Wentworth and Catherine Crowley.

WEST, Major
Assistant Surgeon.
Major West departed from Cork as surgeon on board the convict transport Francis and Eliza on 5 December 1814 and arrived in Sydney on 7 August 1815 . He was a widower from Londonderry whose family, three sons and a daughter, came out to join him later. He was employed as Assistant Surgeon on the medical establishment at Sydney [1815-1817], Parramatta [1817-1821], and Windsor [1821-]. He was also in charge of the Lunatic Asylum at Castle Hill from February 1819-May 1821. West was given a land grant of 700 acres west of Baulkam Hills that he named 'Quakers' Hill'.

WHALAN (Snr.) Charles (1772-1839)
Soldier [NSW Corps, 73rd Regiment, 46th Regiment, 48th Regiment], close friend of the Macquaries.
Charles Whalan arrived on the Albermarle on 13 October 1791. He enlisted in the NSW Corps in 1793 and rose to the rank of Sergeant in that Regiment before transferring to the 73rd Regiment on the arrival of Macquarie. He married Elizabeth (nee) Berry (1781-1866) on 19 March 1810, though they appear to have reconfirmed their vows on 25 March 1810.
Whalan was Governor King's Orderly from 1805 and commanded the Governor's Bodyguard of Light Horse; he continued to serve in this capacity under Macquarie, who trusted him implicity. He trnsferred from the NSW Corps to the 73rd Regiment on 24 March 1810; to the 46th. Regiment on 22 April 1815; 48th Regiment on 25 August 1817; and was finally discharged on 22 February 1824. For his services, Whalan received land grants from Governors Macquarie and Brisbane, and died at Prospect on 18 April 1839, aged 67. He was buried at St. John's Parramatta on 22 April 1839.

WHALAN, Charles (1811-1885)
Second eldest son of Charles and Elizabeth Whalan (nee Berry); close companion of Governor Macquarie's son, Lachlan.
Born 17 May 1811 he was a close companion of Governor Macquarie's son, Lachlan. He married Elizabeth Harper from Glen Morganshire, Wales in 1836. In 1837 they settled on a 2000 acre property at Bullocks Flat now known as Oberon. The farm was named 'Glyndwr' by Elizabeth. In 1838, along with his brother James, he became the reputed (and disputed) discoverer of the Jenolan Caves, near Oberon; he was appointed guide and caretaker for the Caves in 1867, and died on 2 February 1885, aged 74 years.

WHALAN, James (1806-1854)
Eldest son of Charles and Elizabeth (nee Berry) Whalan. Born 5 March 1806. Married Lydia Dargin and they settled in Ginkin, NSW. He died on 6 August 1854 at Fish River, NSW, aged 48 years.

WILMOT-HORTON, (formerly WILMOT), Sir Robert John (1784-1841)
3rd Baronet 1834. Under-Secretary for War and the Colonies 1821-1828; governor of Ceylon 1831-1837. Elizabeth Macquarie's dispute and negotiations with the British Government over acknowledging her husband's achievements in NSW, the tabling of Macquarie's reply to the Bigge Reports in the House of Commons, and the acceptance of a parliamentary pension (after 1824) all involved Robert Wilmot in his capacity as Under-Secretary for War and the Colonies.

WOODINGTON, Henry Thicknesse (d.1813) - Lt. Col.
Military officer (HEIC). Served in Bombay Presidency.
Commissioned: Cadet, 1777; Ensign, April 1779; Lieutenant, 1 May 1780; Captain, 17 December 1793; Major, 6 September 1797; Lt. Colonel, 26 August 1801; Major-General (Brevet), 4 August 1810; retired 1811.
Appointed Town Major at Bombay on 6 September 1797.
Married Catherine Elizabeth Bicknell (d.1839), daughter of William Bicknell and Elizabeth (nee Fox) of Portman Square, London.
Both were guests at the marriage of Lachlan Macquarie and Jane Jarvis in Bombay on 8 September 1793.
