JAMISON, Sir John (1776-1844) [also JAMIESON]
Physician and free settler, with significant landholdings near Penrith, NSW.
Arrived in Sydney in the Broxbornebury in 1814; accompanied Macquarie on his visit to Bathurst in April-May 1815, and in 1818 explored the Warragamba River. In 1817 he was one of the founders of the Bank of New South Wales. Had a fluctuating personal relationship with Macquarie. Opposed the Governor's emancipist policy, and was named by him in a secret report to Lord Bathurst in December 1817 as one of twelve intriguing and discontented persons in NSW who were actively undermining Macquarie's policies. However, by 1819, Macquarie had revised his opinion of him and appointed him as a justice of the peace.

JOHNSTON, David (1797-1866)
Superintendent of Government Stock in NSW. Son of Lt. Colonel George Johnston (1764-1823) and Esther Abrahams (1771-1846).

JOHNSTON, George (1764-1823)
Military officer. Arrived in NSW in 1788 as a Marine officer in the First Fleet on board the Lady Penrhyn, later transferred to the NSW Corps. He authorised the overthrow of Governor Bligh in Sydney on 26 January 1808, for which he was subsequently cashiered, but was allowed to return to Australia in 1813. He was personally acquainted with Macquarie in North America whilst both were serving at Halifax and New York in 1777-78.

Son of Lt. Colonel George Johnston (1764-1823) and Esther Abrahams (1771-1846). Killed in a horseriding accident at the Cowpastures on 19 February 1820.
