DARLING, Ralph (1772-1858)

Macquarie refers to the fact that he met Lt. Colonel Darling on board the vessel Dorsetshire on 21 June 1805. At that time Darling had been sent to India with the 6th Regiment of Foot. Macquarie implies some prior contact between the two men, though no details are currently known. In March 1824 Darling wrote to Macquarie to enquire about the conditions and salary attached to the governorship of NSW.
