This forenoon I had an interview with Earl Bathurst to take leave, and
to explain to His Lordship more fully the object I had in view in my
Letter to him of date 17th. of last month. —
In the afternoon I attended the Duke of York's Levee, to take leave; I
was very graciously received, and had a long conversation with H. R.

employed myself there. —

I this day wrote a Letter to Mr. Richman the
Secry. to the Commissioners for building
addl. Churches in the Highlands of Scotland;
soliciting that a new Church should forthwith be erected at Salen, on my
Estate of Jarvisfield in the Island of Mull – and that I may be
authorized to convert the present old Church at that Place into a
School-House, and Dwelling House for the Schoolmaster and his Family.
I delivered Mr. Richman the Letter in Person;
requesting of him to lay it before the Commissioners as soon as
possible, and to favor me with their decision on my application at his
earliest convenience; it being my [intention] to leave London in ten or
twelve days hence. —
Friday 4. June 1824.
I spoke this day to Sir Edmund Antrobus Bart.,
relative to procuring a Cadetship for one of the Nephews of Coll. Campbell Knock. — He was so good as to take
down his name, and promised to some of his friends among the Directors
of the East India Company; but was very doubtful of his succeeding in
his application, as all these Gentlemen have so many of their own
friends to provide for.
Wedy. 9. June 1824.

Between 2 and 3,OClock this morning I awoke very ill, with a severe
