Wednesday! — I wrote by this day's Bengal Tappal to Colonel Cliffe the King's Adjt. Mc.Quarie lately without Purchase an Ensigncy in the 77th. Regt. at the recommendation of Lt. Col: Montresor. — I wrote at same time to my friend Col: Montresor to thank him for his kind good offices on this occasion. —

We had a wonderful heavy fall of Rain today – which is very uncommon at this late Season of the Year! —

Thursday! — The tomb finished some time since over the Grave of my beloved Wife was this Day uncovered – and the Cadjan Building erected over it during the Rains was entirely removed. — It is very elegant and by far the most so in the Burying Ground. — This is my Angelic Jane's Birth Day! – and it is in honor of it that I had her Tomb uncovered and displayed to Public view. — Had Heaven spared her precious dear life – she would only be this day Twenty Eight Years of Age! — But alas! I was not doomed to be so happy. —
Octr. 23.
