Point de Galle Fort,
Friday Evening,
18th. March
1796.

Sir,

I have the honor to
acknowledge the receipt of
your letter of the 16th. Instant,
received this morning; and beg
leave to inform you, that, I have
communicated the contents of it
to Captain Bannerman, who
will execute and enforce
the orders therein contained,
and report to you accordingly.

I have given a public
notification, agreeably to your
orders, that the Moors and
Chitties are to be employed by
our Government in the same
manner as they were by that
of the Dutch.

The Lists you require
of all those who are now
subsisted by us at Galle,
whether officers or others,
will be furnished by Mr.
Fretz in the course of tomorrow,
to Captain Bannerman; whom
I have directed to transmit
them to you accordingly
without loss of time.

I have delivered over
charge of Galle this afternoon
to Captain Bannerman;
and agreeably to the
kind permission you
have been pleased to grant
me, I mean to set out for
Columbo early tomorrow
morning.
