June

June 2.
— I heard of poor O'Donnell's death, a most worthy character. — Capt. Spry and a large Party dined with us. —

June 4.
Thursday. I dined this day as well as a few other officers of the Regiment with Colonel Bowles the Commanding Officer of the forces in this Province; The officers of the Regiment dined together in Cantonments, (except such as were engaged to Col: Bowles,) and were so obliging as to make a point of Mrs. Macquarie's dining with them, which she did accordingly in honor of His Majesty's Birth Day. —

I forgot to mention in its place that Mrs. Shaw on account of her Pregnancy had been obliged to leave us and go up to Bombay in April last to lay in there: she was accompanied thither by her Husband, who is only lately returned from thence. — He is become one of our Sunday friends in consequence of his wife's absence; and as his friend Lieut. Dond. Mackenzie lives with him, we also invited him in general to dine with us also. —

June 7.
This day it came on very heavy rain indeed and the Monsoon appears now to have set in seriously. —

June 30.
It rained a great deal the whole of this month — nothing new occurred: except that Major Petrie has been very ill of the liver for some time past, but is now recovering. —
