Peter and Paul Fortress
The founding of the Peter and Paul Fortess on 27 May 1703, on the orders of Peter the Great, is ocnsiderd to mark the founding of the city. Originally built of wood, it was later replaced section by section in stone by Swiss-Italian architect Domenico Trezzini.
