Embark on an astronomical adventure with our inaugural Astrophotography Competition! Whether you're a seasoned astrophotographer or a budding enthusiast, this is your chance to capture the wonders of the cosmos and share them with our community.
Our brand new competition is open to all skill levels, whether you are capturing the beauty of distant planets or the brilliance of the Milky Way there’s a category for everyone: Planetary, Widefield, Deep Sky, and a special categories for high school students and students of Macquarie University.
Ready to embark on a cosmic odyssey unlike any other? Grab your camera, set your sights on the stars, and join us in celebrating the mystery of the universe through the lens of astrophotography.

Terms and Conditions:
  • Images must be taken AFTER the announcement of the competition (1st June 2024) and must be accompanied by a photo of your set-up.
  • Participants can only enter up to two photos.
  • No remote set-ups are to be used and entrants must not use other’s data.
  • MQ students can submit photos using data taken at MQ Observatory, as long as it is shown that they have taken and processed their images by themselves.
  • Vendors cannot enter the competition.
  • Prizes will be awarded at Astronomy Open Night on Sep 21st.
  • Digital images will be displayed on screens at the event with shortlisted entries printed and displayed.
  • All short-listed entries will be given a family pass or equivalent to attend the AON on Sep 21st.
