Outstanding specialist laboratories and facilities

Our innovative research and teaching programs are underpinned by state-of-the-art facilities, with specialist photonics and quantum labs, laser processing and optical characterisation facilities, and an astronomical observatory.

Facilities within the School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences include:

  • access to onshore and offshore 2-8 metre telescopes
  • laser micromachining, nano-characterisation and diamond growth facilities
  • major 3D metal printing facility in steel and titanium
  • thin film deposition and crystal growth systems
  • access to national supercomputer facilities
  • the OptoFab Node of the Australian national Fabrication Facility (ANFF)
  • more than 30 well-equipped laboratories and clean rooms.
