Engineering Robotic Platforms

The Macquarie University Robotics Club (MURC) are plugging away at building robots, systems, electronics, and control hardware and software.

The club seeks to collectively help its members build the robots they want to build, working through the conceptual, design and construction phases. Members can contribute to a project from other members, or start their own.

Current Projects and Competitions

Soldering

The club will be holding a ‘sumo bot’ competition towards the end of the year. As a club, we try to support with a small amount of funding, as well as development and design support. The competition is open to anyone, and there is no previous experience necessary.

We hold skill development workshops and build sessions each week on the university campus. These sessions are dedicated to building the sumo robots, as well as other projects members have begun.

In 2018 and 2019, Macquarie University submitted entrants in the Droid Race Challenge (DRC), hosted by QUT. The Robotics Club can also provide small financial assistance to one team (although two are able to attend), as well as development and design support. The DRC is open to anyone.

Wheel chair base

This year, MURC was given a powerful motorised wheelchair base, on the condition that it was incorporated into a robot design.

This is an open opportunity for anyone in the robot club, in groups or as individuals, to take the reins by modifying or adding to the base and building a functional system.

A number of other universities are also working on a similar project, and we hope to establish a cross-university development group.

Weekly meetings on alternate Tuesdays and Thursdays, 13 Research Park Drive (F9C)

MURC has a regular meeting each week, alternating between Tuesdays and Thursdays (to spread the availability). Meetings include development and build sessions, soldering workshops, coding workshops, CAD skills workshops, 3D print workshops, or even just messing around with LEGO Mindstorms.

We would love to see you there!

  • Thursday meetings - weeks 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12.
  • Tuesday meetings - weeks 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.

Special workshops and other events are held on the dates above, and are advised through the club's Facebook page.
