Join a vibrant, multicultural student community

A positive, supportive community can make all the difference in your postgraduate research experience, and we aim to make your time with the faculty enjoyable and transformative.

The Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences (FMHHS) community hosts social and cultural events, as well as professional development talks and workshops. Our community often works closely with the Early Career Researchers (ECR) network (EnCouRage) to host these events.

MedSoc

We have a vibrant multicultural student community in the faculty, with an active postgraduate student group that hosts:

  • social events
  • cultural events
  • professional development talks
  • workshops.

These activities are spearheaded by our MedSoc team, who maintain this student society as part of Macquarie University Clubs and Societies, and also receive faculty support. This society also liaises closely with the very well established EnCouRage network, based in the faculty.

FMHHS Mentoring for Graduate Researchers (MGR) program

Our mentoring program connects active researchers in the faculty across disciplines. Working with the EnCouRage network, the graduate research committee coordinates pairing of graduate researchers with ECR mentors each year.

We host monthly networking events and workshops to:

  • support professional development and offer certificates for participants
  • build a supportive network
  • promote the success of our early-career graduate students and researchers.

Opportunities to showcase your research

The faculty encourages research students to take opportunities to showcase their research in contests like:

We provide training in how to best present yourself and your work in these exciting competitions. The EnCouRage network also runs a very successful annual scientific symposium where graduate research students are encouraged to present their work.
