Asia-Pacific workshop unites experts to fight forest crime
Macquarie Law School’s workshop launched the Asia Pacific Forest Crime Network, focusing on combating forestry crimes using financial crime frameworks.
The Law School hosted the Inaugural Workshop of the Asia Pacific Forest Crime Network (APFCN); supported by the Financial Integrity Hub.
The hybrid workshop was attended by more than 30 expert participants – including five Network members visiting from PNG and the Solomon Islands.
The APFCN is an emergent network of scholars, advocates, community stakeholders and industry experts committed to challenging, disrupting, and preventing forestry crimes in Asia-Pacific.
Macquarie Law School's Dr Hannah Harris chaired the workshop, which focused on the experiences of Papua New Guinean and the Solomon Islands – exploring the potential for frameworks against financial crime, especially those targeting money laundering, tax evasion, bribery and corruption, to be deployed to combat forest crime in the Asia Pacific region.
