The Michael Kirby Building

Officially opened in March 2024, the Michael Kirby Building is a striking addition to Macquarie University’s campus. Named in honour of the esteemed jurist and human rights advocate, The Honourable Dr. Michael Kirby AC CMG, this building stands testament to our commitment to excellence, collaboration and positive societal change.

The stunning architecture has collaboration at its heart and reflects our commitment to fostering a vibrant academic community. With state-of-the-art facilities, including a first its kind floating moot court, this building provides a truly inspiring environment, sparking creativity and innovation, enabling the highest standards of legal education and research.

The Michael Kirby Building is a nexus for partnerships. Housing Wallumatta Legal, a not-for-profit family law firm which sprung from a partnership between Macquarie University and DLA Piper, and the multi-partner Aboriginal Legal Career Pathways program.

The building also has dedicated law student study spaces, student meeting, reading rooms and kitchen, and legal clinic rooms where students bridge theory and reality with real-world legal practice experience.

The Michael Kirby Building is a place where legal minds converge, ideas flourish, and justice takes root. It is a beacon of progress, honouring a remarkable individual and acting as a catalyst for transformation, a canvas for ideas, and a testament to our shared purpose.
