Making a mark on legal education

Established as a foundational discipline of the University in the 1970s, Macquarie Law School is one of Australia’s premier law schools.

Throughout our history we have taken pride in being a different kind of law school – keen to educate critical thinkers by instilling in our students an understanding of the rule of law that goes deeper than the law of rules. Driven by values, a spirit of service and a desire for innovation, we encourage our students to be curious, passionate global citizens.

Our law degrees emphasise professional skills and hands-on clinical training, as well as offering distinct research and PhD pathways. We are also conscious that the lawyers of the future will need expertise in more than just law; our strong selection of double degrees will boost students’ career options when they combine law with complementary disciplines such as commerce, cyber security, technology, psychology, arts and media.

We count more than 10,000 alumni from around the world, many of whom have become leaders in legal practice, business, society and academia. We look forward to welcoming many more into our growing Macquarie family — and our new Law School building, named in honour of the Hon Michael Kirby AC CMG.
