Direct entry to the Bachelor of Music

You can gain entry to Macquarie's Bachelor of Music degree either through UAC (using your ATAR), or through direct entry by auditioning.

Admission via audition

Music auditions run from August through to the early January for Semester 1 entry. We also run auditions from April through June for Semester 2 offers. If you are interested in auditioning, then please apply as soon as possible and we will review your application and, if applicable, we will contact you with an audition time.

You will need to:

  1. Apply for Bachelor of Music directly. Providing your personal details, educational background, musical background, and a brief personal statement.
  2. If your application is successful, you will receive notification of your assigned audition date/time via return e-mail.
  3. Complete a 30 minute audition including musical playback/performance, a short written component, and an interview.

The audition process

Each audition will take around 30 minutes and will consist of:

  1. A 10-minute performance/presentation consisting of 2 pieces of work. You should be prepared to perform 2 songs or musical works
    OR play 2 recorded songs or musical works/productions. These pieces of work should be from 20th/21st century music; one work may be an original composition/song.
    Your performance/presentation should also include a brief oral introduction (no more than 2 minutes each) for each work. These should discuss the works' context and significance in relation to your own musical background and development.
  2. A 15-minute written component. You will be asked to respond, in writing, to supplied short question(s) provided on paper.
  3. A five minute interview.

  • A recording of your backing track/s in USB/mp3 format (if required)
  • Your recorded compositions/production works in USB/mp3 format (if required).
What we are looking for in the audition
  • Ability to communicate in various contexts (oral, musical, performance, written)
  • Developing proficiency in selected instrument/s (including production, instrument, or voice)
  • Ability to articulate musical and creative motivations
