Working together to build and exchange knowledge
The Department of History and Archaeology is a community of researchers and teachers devoted to collaborating with a range of partners in education, government and private industry.
The Department of History and Archaeology maintains strong relationships with the education and public interest sectors. We are interested in preserving our existing connections as well as building new relationships with people and parties interested in history and archaeology in Australia and around the globe.
Community partners
The department engages with a number of community partners, who focus on particular areas of the department’s portfolio, including cultural appreciation organisations, community language associations, and religious groups. Macquarie archaeologists and historians help our partners to organise events and fundraise. Our scholars maintain active collaborations with a range of organisations such as:
- The Croatian Studies Foundation
- The Macquarie Ancient History Association
- The Rundle Foundation for Egyptian Archaeology
- The Sir Asher Joel Foundation
- The Society for the Study of Early Christianity
- the Sydney Coptic community.
Donations
These engagements are made possible in part from donations from individual donors and our community partners. In the past, these contributions have funded undergraduate research and experiential learning, including supporting travel by Macquarie students to study in the Mediterranean and the Levant.
Engaging with schools and teachers
We are world leaders in the study of Ancient History, Modern History, and Archaeology. We collaborate with a range of education stakeholders, including the History Teacher’s Association of NSW, to host an annual conference on the teaching of Ancient History, to offer extensive resources for the teaching of history at the primary and secondary level, and to offer units for continuing education.
