The Idea Of North

The Idea Of North

The Idea of North defy categorisation. As a quartet of musicians, their voices are their instruments: soprano, alto, tenor and bass, with a little bit of vocal percussion thrown in. Their sound and style is distinct, yet they cross many musical genres: jazz, folk, gospel, pop, classical, even comedy.

Their arrangements are extraordinary. They take songs you know and songs you don't know, and create songs you'll love. But it's not just about the music.

What started out as four students from the Canberra School of Music at the Australian National University kicking around as friends resulted in a group that has won international recognition, taken home awards such as the USA's 'Harmony Sweepstakes' and Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards for Best Jazz Album and Best Jazz Song, as well as mesmerised fans across Australia and around the world.
