A wide range of programs for a variety of visitors

Our learning and research programs offer creative learning opportunities for students from all walks of life.

Our learning and research programs serve Macquarie University students, business and community groups, individuals, and school groups. You will get to know the art, and the artists whose works are on display in the gallery and throughout the collection, and expand your knowledge of contemporary art and society.

Macquarie University student programs

MUAG provides opportunities for integrative and practice-based learning that reaches beyond the lecture theatre.

We collaborate with course convenors on a broad range of units offering guest lectures, masterclasses in curation, practical and visual analysis exercises, as well as the supervision of PACE students. We invite lecturers from all disciplines to utilise the exhibition program and gallery space for learning and teaching. Our programs employ an interdisciplinary framework and we encourage participants from all faculties and disciplines.

MUAG has a number of special collections and thematic strengths which may form the basis of educational programs in areas such as sociology, history, environmental science, anthropology and legal studies:

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Collection
  • Sheila Macdonald Oceanic Art Collection
  • Anthropology of Art
  • Modernism and Post-Colonial perspectives
  • Australian Abstraction
  • Landscape and Nationalism
  • Internationalism – Colour field Painting and Hard-Edge abstraction
  • Environmental Aesthetics and Plant Ecology

We invite enquiries from Macquarie teaching staff and researchers on using the art collection in teaching and research programs.
