How to request new databases and other subscription-based resources
To request a new subscription for the Library collection, complete this form. Requests for new subscriptions are assessed against research and teaching priorities as well as budgetary and technical constraints.
Priority is given to subscriptions which:
- support identified areas of University research strength, address a gap in the existing teaching program, or are required for a new course
- are unable to be sourced through the interlibrary loan service.
Resources will be subscribed to in electronic format if they meet required conditions such as:
- the user access model and license conditions are consistent with best practice (e.g. access is provided via IP authentication for current Macquarie staff and students)
- being available in the required timeframe and at a competitive cost
- having databases that can be trialled.
Please contact your Faculty/Clincial Librarian for more information.
Other considerations
- Requested resources prioritised for purchase are included in future budget planning submissions. This can mean considerable delays in commencing new subscriptions.
- Requests for single journal titles are not prioritised for purchase except in exceptional circumstances. Where article/s from these journals are required, researchers should place an interlibrary loan request (ILL).
- ILL statistics will be reviewed in future years to assess whether the ILL service is meeting the needs of the researcher. If the cost of ILL requests is more than the subscription cost, the journal title will be reviewed for possible prioritisation to purchase.
- Print-only versions of journal titles will not be subscribed to except in exceptional circumstances.
- Backsets of subscribed journal titles will not be purchased except in exceptional circumstances.
