Delivering resources directly to eligible students

The Library provides distance services to students living outside the Sydney metropolitan area and lower Central Coast region, determined by postcode.

Eligibility

We offer this service to:

  • students and staff living outside the Sydney metropolitan area and lower Central Coast region, determined by postcode
  • postgraduate students and academic staff – you can request interlibrary loans for items not held at Macquarie University
  • Macquarie staff and students living overseas – we can only deliver copies of chapters and articles. We do not send books or other ‘hard copy’ items overseas
  • Open Universities Australia (OUA) students – you are only eligible if you are studying toward a Macquarie University undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

Note: remember to update your postal address and contact details.

You can request items from Macquarie University or through our interlibrary loan service.

Use interlibrary loans for:

  • items not held by Macquarie University
  • copies of book chapters or journal articles. We will provide digital copies.

  1. Log in to MultiSearch.
  2. Search for the required item, and when you have found what you are looking for, click the ‘HOLD/ARC Request’ link.
  3. Click on the ‘Request’ link.
  4. Complete the request details, selecting a ‘Pickup Location’ of either your home address or Macquarie Library, as preferred.
  5. Click the ‘Request’ button.
  1. Log in to MultiSearch.
  2. Search to see if the Library already holds the required item.
  3. If it is not held by Macquarie, use the ‘Expand beyond library collections’ link and search again to see if the item appears.
  4. When you have found what you are looking for, check to see if any ‘Get it for me’ options have appeared.
  5. Use the ‘Get it for me’ options to request your interlibrary loan.

If you have requested an item but have not received a response within two weeks, contact the Library.

Distance users may directly request items held by the Library and select a home delivery option. For normal delivery:

  • we pay the postage cost of sending the items to you.
  • you pay the postage cost of returning the items to us.

Copyright restrictions on requests

Under the provisions of the amended Copyright Act 1968, we are limited to sending only one chapter or 10 per cent of a book. Journals are less restricted, allowing us to send multiple articles on a similar subject from single journal issues.

Receiving requests

You will receive an email when a requested item is available.

Loans will be posted to your address or can be collected from the Collection point, level 2, Library.

Renewing and returning loans

Items are not always available for renewal, eg if another user has requested it.

All loans should be returned to Macquarie University Library by the due date.

If returning by mail, send items to:

Macquarie University Library
Distance Education Service
16 Macquarie Walk
Macquarie University NSW 2109
