Access electronic journals, books and databases from anywhere

Macquarie University staff and students have access to a wide range of online resources via MultiSearch.

MultiSearch

Use MultiSearch, the Library’s search tool, to find and access:

TIP: When you are off campus, you will need to log in to MultiSearch with your OneID to access online material.

Visit our MultiSearch guide for more tips to successful searching.

Macquarie University Library subscribes to tens of thousands of electronic journal titles, databases and ebooks.

Many publishers recognise when you are on campus by your Macquarie IP address, giving you seamless access to journal articles and ebooks. If you are off campus, your IP address will not be recognised and you will encounter a paywall.

Here are some ways to access University subscribed content when you are off campus:

  • Use MultiSearch – using the Library’s discovery platform, MultiSearch, is the simplest way to find and access the electronic content you have access to as a Macquarie student or staff member. You will be prompted to sign in and authenticate when you're accessing paywalled items. It’s also a good idea to sign in to MultiSearch at the start of a session, as you’ll get more comprehensive search results.
  • Use Google Scholar@MQ – the Macquarie version of Google Scholar will give you access to full text articles using the ‘Find it@MQ’ option, available where we have access to the resource.
  • Add the ‘simsrad’ prefix – when you access a web page which charges for access, add the ‘simsrad’ prefix to the URL in your browser. At the start of the URL add “http://simsrad.net.ocs.mq.edu.au/login?url=” eg http://simsrad.net.ocs.mq.edu.au/login?url=https://www.macquariedictionary.com.au
  • Use the ‘Access via Macquarie’ bookmarklet – This bookmarklet adds the ‘simsrad’ prefix your current browser URL. There are other tools that will also ‘proxify’ sites by adding the ‘simsrad’ prefix.
  • Australian Access Federation, Macquarie institution login – some of our publishers offer direct login access to resources and services on their website. Look on the publisher website to see if there is an institutional login option. If there is, and Macquarie University is a listed institution, select it. Use your OneID when you are prompted for a login. Note: this access method is not available for all publishers and resources.
  • Macquarie University VPN access – OneNet Anywhere (VPN) lets you connect easily to the University network from anywhere in the world. Staff or students who need OneNet VPN must submit a OneHelp request and obtain approval before using.

Unit readings (Leganto)

Use Leganto to find online readings for your unit.

TIP: If your unit is using Leganto, you can access your reading list through the Leganto block in your iLearn page. If unit readings are unavailable, contact your Unit Convenor. If required, prescribed textbooks can be purchased from a range of book suppliers, including Booktopia.

Visit our Leganto Reading Lists for Students guide for more information.

There are many other online resources to assist with your study and research, including:

I'm not a current Macquarie staff or student

If you are not a current MQ staff or student, there are limitations on access to our online resources, especially from off-campus, due to licensing restrictions.
