Purchasing resources from non-Library funds
Non-Library funds, including research grants, may be used to purchase working copies of published material. Working copy purchases are not handled by the Library.
Financial units are permitted to order certain categories of library-type material without reference to the Library.
Published material from the following categories can be purchased.
- Working copies, such as:
- computer, laboratory and fieldwork manuals
- teaching tools such as study guides, test banks, instructor manuals, field manuals.
- Materials that cannot be licensed for whole of University use, such as:
- psychological testing instruments and accompanying manuals which are only available to qualified psychologists
- industry data or market research reports which cannot be licensed for whole-of-University use
- copies of case studies provided to students.
- Materials provided to students, such as:
- field manuals
- case studies.
- Materials needed to support the delivery of a University Consultancy (as defined in the Enterprise Agreement) or provided by the University to a partner institution to meet the University’s obligations under a partnership agreement.
- Ephemeral items, such as a reprint of an article or a pamphlet which is not appropriate to include in the Library collection.
The appropriate natural account for these materials is 5027 – Book Purchases Non Library.
Ownership of working copies
All materials purchased with University funds become the property of the University and must remain under the University’s control.
Advisory services
The Library staff are happy to provide an advisory service to financial units on the purchase of work tools as appropriate.
