Loan and fee information

Learn how much you can access as a member of the Library, and for how long. Check if membership is free for you, or if any fees apply.

Library membership is offered to:

If you are a current Macquarie University student or staff member, your Library membership is free.

You can use your:

  • campus card to borrow unlimited items
  • OneID to access our online collections.
Member type Maximum loan length*
Undergraduate students (includes Open Universities Australia, Macquarie University College, ALAW ) 10 weeks plus 2 renewals
Postgraduate and research students (includes postgraduate coursework, graduate researchers and honours students) 10 weeks plus 4 renewals
Staff (includes staff of Macquarie-controlled entities, adjuncts, Macquarie Council members, Macquarie University College staff, MQ Health staff) 10 weeks plus 4 renewals

Alumni Library members can:

Access is determined by the terms of publisher licenses. These databases may be used off-campus by Macquarie alumni for personal, non-commercial use. Use of these resources for commercial gain is not permitted.

After applying for membership you will get a log-in and password to access these resources from anywhere in the world. Alumni databases may be accessed via MultiSearch.

If you are not a current Macquarie University student or staff member, you will need to apply for Library membership.

Community members can:

  • access online resources from within the Library
  • borrow a maximum of 20 items
  • loan items for a maximum of four weeks plus two renewals.*

Members of the wider community include:

  • University Partners (includes former Macquarie staff, alumni)
  • Individuals (ie members of the general public)
  • Employees, including postgraduate students, of on-site partner organisations (Australian College of Theology, Australian Hearing Hub, Cochlear, Morling College, Sydney College of Divinity and their teaching bodies and Woolcock Institute)
  • Staff and students of other universities (ULANZ borrowing scheme)
  • Partner schools teachers and supervising teachers (includes Big History schools)
  • HSC Extension History and Big History students 

HSC Extension History and Big History students will also need to complete a permission form and either bring in a physical copy or upload the completed form with your membership application.

Most community members have access to free Library membership, but the following types have an associated fee.

Access to Library resources is determined by the terms of publisher licenses, and availability is dependent on the nature of your appointment type and relationship with the University.

All Hospital staff are eligible to:

Hospital staff who have a role that relates to the provision of education at MQ Health may be eligible to apply for additional electronic resource access.

If eligible, Hospital staff (eg via a Macquarie University or MQ Health appointment) can use their:

  • campus card to borrow an unlimited number of print items
  • OneID to access electronic resources remotely.

Macquarie University Hospital accredited affiliates, allied health professionals and commercial partners on campus may join the Library at no cost with borrowing rights and the ability to access most electronic resources when in the Library.
