How to request new books and resources

What if the Library doesn't have a resource you need for your research? Don't panic, there are options.

By Library

Macquarie University Library has an excellent collection developed over 50 years to meet the University's changing research needs. Still, no library holds everything and you might find there are items you need for your research that the Library doesn't hold or have access to. Don't panic, there are options.

Interlibrary loans
Macquarie staff and postgraduate students can use the interlibrary loan service to request copies of books, articles, book chapters, theses and more from other libraries. Macquarie University Library will source these from all around the world. Requests aremade through MultiSearch and you'll be notified when your item has arrived.

Request a purchase
If you need a book or ebook for your research and you think it would make a good addition to the Library's collection, you can ask the Library to buy a copy by making a book purchase request.

Subscription-based resources like journals and databases can also be recommended, however these can be complex and need to be more closely assessed against budgetary and technical constraints. To recommend these, speak to your Faculty Librarian in the first instance.
