Presenter: Dr Danielle Colenbrander Early bird price: $412 (register by 3rd April 2023 to receive this discounted rate) Standard price: $485 (discounts available for multiple enrolments, MQ staff, and MQ students) Course materials: A course workbook including all materials will be provided prior to the workshop About the workshop By the end of the workshop, learners will have a clear understanding of current research on vocabulary instruction, how vocabulary knowledge relates to reading comprehension, and how to teach vocabulary knowledge to children in one-on-one, small group or whole class settings. This workshop will be useful for primary school teachers, special education teachers, speech language pathologists, and anyone working with children who have reading or language difficulties. Attendance at the related workshops “Understanding Reading Comprehension: From Research to Classroom” and “Teaching Morphology for Reading, Spelling and Vocabulary” is recommended but not essential. Session 1: Learners will access recorded content that they can watch in their own time. This content will cover the relationships between vocabulary knowledge and reading comprehension, current research on vocabulary instruction, and vocabulary assessment. Session 2: This live 2.5-hour session will cover how to teach vocabulary knowledge to children in one-on-one, small group, or whole class settings. Session 3: This live 1-hour follow-up session is an opportunity to consolidate knowledge acquired in the course and to ask any remaining questions.
